Information About Us

Valley Special People  is a community resource site established by someone who  loves and  cares for a disabled child. My  son was  diagnosed Down syndrome 21 weeks into  my pregnancy. The  news of his diagnosis was both overwhelming and  scary. My husband and  I did  lots  of research (via internet), and  sought assistance from specialists. We were provided with a  lot  of  information that  led  us  to  believe that our child’s  future was  dismal. Eventually, my  husband  and  I looked into  local  resources, and were referred to  local  support group, Sharing  Down syndrome.

We  attended a  meeting, and instantly  connected with some  awesome  people who had several  things  in common with  us. They  were also willing  to  embrace us…which is just  what  we needed. We later attended monthly support group meetings, and  became involved with regular  events/gatherings. We  continue  to have  a relationship with the support  group  families. The  support group families often connect, and  share. The advice, referrals, and  support are  priceless.

You are  probably  wondering why  one would start  a   community resource site, if they are  doing  just  fine. The  reason we  decided to launch a “Special Needs” resource is simply because there is really nothing available locally  that  addresses all aspects  of “Special Needs”. Yes,   you have  individual sites dedicated  to each respective diagnosis /disability.  However, there is  nothing available locally  that provides  support,  resources, and   insight  for  everyone  involved with the care  of a “Special Needs”  child.
